Advanced Paramedics

Simon Wordley (m) - Simon joined the team in 2017.  He is a very experienced advanced paramedic and also a fully qualified resuscitation trainer.

Advanced Paramedics are a vital part of the general practice team.  Working alongside our oncall team of Doctors and Nurse Practitioners an Advanced Paramedic will come out and visit housebound patients who have become unwell, in order to provide a quick assessment of their condition and support the clinicians on call in making the best decision for each patient's immediate and urgent care needs.  When in the practice, the Advanced Paramedic can also see and treat the same conditions as our Acute Illness nurses, namely new onset infections, rashes etc.

Nurse Practitioners

Nurse Practitioners are able to diagnose and prescribe illness in a similar way to doctors and can care for patients with most acute illnesses. A large proportion of the practice's appointments which are available to book on the day will be with a nurse practitioner. Such appointments are ideal for patients with recent onset of symptoms and doctors are always on hand should their advice be needed.

Helen Scott (f) - Helen is a highly experienced Nurse Practitioner who joined the practice in 2007.

Caroline Dunstan (f) - Caroline qualified as a Nurse Practitioner in 2017 having previously been a Diabetic Specialist Nurse and Hospital Sister.  Caroline is also the clinical lead for our Nurse team, overseeing our nursing processes and helps co-ordinate the team's continuing professional development.

Karen Jenkin (f) - Karen is a Nurse Practitioner with many years experience as an ambulance paramedic, minor injury unit nurse and out-of-hours Nurse Practitioner. Karen joined the practice in 2015, initially to help cover the sabbatical absence of our Acute Illness Nurse, and has continued to work with us ever since. Karen helps to look after patients requiring an appointment that day, either face-to-face or on the telephone.

Mavis Kirby (f) - Mavis has been a Nurse Practitioner in the county for many years, initially at Cardrew Health Centre, and with this practice since 2014 taking up post initially at Homecroft Surgery before it merged with Pool to form Carn to Coast Health Centres.  Mavis sees patients predominantly at Pool and Homecroft as well as providing oncall assistance on the telephone.

Ms Justine Smith (f) - Justine joined the practice in August 2017 with many prior years' experience as a Nurse Practitioner and Minor Injury Unit Nurse. Justine also works for the out of hours service.
