Minor Illness nurses can consult patients with day to day illnesses and prescribe certain medications. They can treat many conditions including throat/chest/urine/ear infections, rashes and other new onset illnesses.

Practice nurses are qualified and registered nurses. Practice Nurses can help with health issues such as family planning, healthy living advice, vaccinations, blood pressure checks and dressings. The practice nurses run clinics for long-term health conditions such as asthma or diabetes, minor ailment clinics and carry out cervical smears.

 

Assistant Practitioners

Assistant Practitioners support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as dressings and pressure bandaging, diabetic checks, spirometry, some injections, phlebotomy (drawing blood), blood pressure measurement and new patient checks. They may act as a chaperone when a patient or doctor requests one.

Healthcare Assistants

Healthcare assistants support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as diabetic checks, spirometry, some injections, phlebotomy (drawing blood), blood pressure measurement and new patient checks. They may act as a chaperone when a patient or doctor requests one.

Phlebotomists

Carol Whitham (f), Ciconne Tellam (f), Jessica Weeks (f) & Amy Harris (f)

Phlebotomists primarily see patients requiring blood tests, but some also undertake specialist INR tests for patients on warfarin or other blood thinning drugs. Phlebotomists are also trained to undertake ECGs and support the nursing team with other clinical tasks such as urine testing.
